Course objectives
In the seminar the important literary works from the period 1914–1948 will be analyzed. The seminar aims at demostrating the diversity of aesthetic strategies used by authors adhering to different aesthetic and political agenda. The literary works will be situated within a broad historic, intellectual and artistic backround. Their conncetedness with European cultural millieu of the time will also be discussed.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course the student will be able to:
- identify and comment on relevant aspects of Czech literary modernism;
- identify and describe different -isms of the time;
- understand Czech Modernism in the context of Euro-American literature and culture of the time;
- analyze and interpret literary modernist works from the point of view of the undergoing social and political changes.
