Prerequisites are language skills at the B2 or C1 level and your willingness to regularly read and discuss narratives of 15-20 pages in length.

Course objectives
In preparing their homework, students learn methods and techniques of literary studies. In the first seminars, they are introduced to important reference works and online journals. It would be gratifying if the seminar could possibly lead to diploma theses.
Learning outcomes
Students will demonstrate in discussions at seminars, but especially in seminar works, the ability to contextualize the text in the literary history, to apply the methods presented in the introductory lessons, to analyze the style of text, to synthesize own partial findings in a conclusive evaluation, and to decide if and why the text is suitable for translation into Czech or for inclusion in a similar teaching programme with.

Teaching methods
Introduction about the literary and historical context of the story. Discussions on the problems of narratology and perhaps of the translation of this text into Czech.
