Course objectives
Practical language course of German encompassing the training of all language competences - speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Half of the weekly hours are taught by Czech employees and by German or Austrian lecturers. Czech teachers focus on the textbook and on grammatical problems, the mother tongue lecturers on the speech and writing skills.
Czech teachers are responsible for the translation of journalistic and scientific articles into German. Native speakers focus on textual coherence, argumentation techniques and respect for intercultural differences.
Learning outcomes
The students learn 6 lessons from the textbook Sicher! C1.1. Lecturers (native speakers) pick up on the conversational themes of these lessons and also focus on selected cultural topics, the type of text "motivation letter"(both when applying for a job and a scholarship) as well as a structured curriculum vitae and a precise and linguistically adequate description of a photo.
  • Sicher! C1_1: Lesson 1: Social changes in recent decades. Mobile mania. Relaxing in everyday life. Subjective meaning of modal verbs. Word formation: prefixes miss-, zer-, de- and de. Lesson 2: Manners in the tourism industry. Plan joint trip. Aptitude tests in human resources. Two-part concessive and restrictive Konenktoren. Fixed noun-verb connections (function verb structure), typical for the nominal style (verbonominal predicate, ie categorical verb and predictive name). Lesson 3: Intelligence and knowledge. Meaningful early childhood intervention.Retell the fables. Modal verbs and their alternatives. Lesson 4: Professional life. Attractive employers. Migrant workers. Payroll. The German ES as a compulsory and non-obligatory sentence element. Comparative adjectives. Lesson 5: Interpret a picture. Presentation on a subject of art. documenta: Every 5 years Kassel becomes a mecca for contemporary art. The pros and cons of art studies. Word formation: prefixing by be- and ver-. Indirect speech: questions and imperatives. Lesson 6: Which field of study is right for you? Language and gender. Foreign students - interviews. Intercultural communication. Transcript of a lecture. Word formation: suffixing with nouns. Reference words. Text types:

Teaching methods
Language exercises with both German native speakers and Czech lecturers.Work in groups. Discussions about doubts in the homework. Regular tests.
Assessment methods
The course ends with a final test (only passed / failed). The lecturer grades presentations. The linguistic style of the essays as well as the language characteristics of taught text types are crucial to pass the final test. Czech teachers test the knowledge of language proficiency on the basis of the material of six lessons, the use of articles and in the final test the task, to continue writing by taking into account what has been previously written.
