Cíle předmětu
During this course experts on the archaeology of the Middle East and their actual excavations and research will be introduced to the students. For this semester the actual topic is- Hosehold an Death in the Near Eastern Neolithic. Application of 1. a theoretical approach (The Social Life of Things) to household materials and 2. the use of a systemic Neolithic approach.
Výstupy z učení
The practical outcome is to create a showcase for students of the Center of Prehistoric Archaeology of the Near East with original material, explained by texts referring to The Social Life of Things and the systemic approach.

  • 1. Lecture I- Household and Death in the Near Eastern Neolithic: The Meta-Theoretical Frameworks
  • 2. Lecture II- Household and Death in the Near Eastern Neolithic:The Identification, Analysis and Interpretation of Findings, Finds and Subsistence Data. The Storage Issue, The Reconstruction of Active Households.
  • 3. Theory in Practice Exercise I- Household Production: Original material explained by The Social Life of Things approach using a systemic framework.
  • 4. Theory in Practice Exercise II- Household Production: Original material explained by The Social Life of Things approach using a systemic framework.
  • 5. Practice I- Household production: Classifying and describing original artefacts (Free University of Berlin- Lindenberg)
  • 6. Practice II- Household production: Classifying and describing original artefacts (Free University of Berlin- Lindenberg)

Lectures, Practical Exercise, Practical Analysis of household materials from Basta and Ba`ja, South Jordan (7500-7000 BC)
Metody hodnocení
Participants are expected to deliver a practice report by the end of the semester, showing their application of the two approaches.
