Course objectives
The course is designed for students of computational linguistics who want to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. Students can participate in various research and practical tasks related to computer linguistics, natural language processing, corpus linguistics and other current topics related to the field. New tasks will be given for each relevant semester. Students will work in small teams or alone; they will apply for the selected topic and, after filling the capacity of chosen topic, will contact the project manager. The topics (under the PLIN055 code) are listed in IS - Topic lists - Projects - Projects for Czech language and computational linguistics. The coursework consists of consultation with the supervisor and/or the consultant: an introductory meeting will be held with assigning the topics, there will be consultations during semester followed by submission of results and final evaluation of student's work. The G13 classroom can be used for meetings of individual teams (see reservations in the timetable). Team members will also collaborate via online communication using appropriate tools such as Facebook groups, document sharing on Google Drive, etc.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- Apply theoretical knowledge from computational and corpus linguistics
- Manage team work (division of tasks, communication with the supervisor and team members, fulfillment of tasks and abiding the deadlines, etc.); take responsibility for an individual task
- Use online tools for teamwork
- Use the acquired knowledge and skills in further studies and in practice.
Syllabus
