Course objectives
The Codicology course provides a comprehensive overview of manuscripts and manuscript libraries, the origins of manuscripts, their different types and users, the principles for describing them, the development of libraries and the most important libraries in Europe, Bohemia and Moravia, as well as Medieval manuscript collections.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- identify the most common types of medieval manuscripts;
- be familiar with the network of institutions with manuscript collections in the Czech Republic;
- use catalogues of manuscripts whose editorial language is Latin;
- apply the knowledge acquired in classes practically to a brief description of a manuscript.
