- Course objectives
- The course is a follow-up of the RLKA06 Christianity I. It briefly surveys main Christian denominations and tracks their development under various conditions from the Modern Age to present days. The main concern lies at introducing students into the occurrence, transformations, and impacts of the Reformation in different social, cultural, and religious milieus. Considerable attention will be paid also to “Catholic response” to the Reformation in the context of the Council of Trent, Catholic anti-modernism, and aggiornamento. Relevant topics will be approached in relation to the conceptual shifts in theological understanding of salvation, sanctity, church etc.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to::
- identify social-economic and political processes behind the Reformation
- discern main trends in the Modern Age Christianity and analyze their development
- define main characteristics of Protestantism
- characterize “Tridentine Catholicism” and analyze post-Tridentine development
- evaluate dynamic relation between the modern (secularized) society and the main Christian denominations

Oral exam prerequisites:
- submission of two analytical abstracts of source texts (50 points maximally)
Analytical abstracts mark gives 25 % of the final evaluation.- midterm test (100 points maximally)
- final test (100 points maximally)
Student to pass must score 120 points (60 %) on both tests together. Student can take any of tests in exam period in a morning before oral examination. Student needs to register him- or herself to examination term through IS MU. In a case of failure on tests student gains “F” and has to register to another examination term. Oral examination (75 % of the final evaluation) concerns on:- knowledge in topics from syllabus
- interpretation skills
Colloquium- midterm test (100 points maximally)
- final test (100 points maximally)
Student to succeed must score 120 points (60 %) on both tests together. Student can take any of tests in exam period in a morning before oral examination with no need to register in IS MU.

- Course objectives
- The course is a follow-up of the RLKA06 Christianity I. It briefly surveys main Christian denominations and tracks their development under various conditions from the Modern Age to present days. The main concern lies at introducing students into the occurrence, transformations, and impacts of the Reformation in different social, cultural, and religious milieus. Considerable attention will be paid also to “Catholic response” to the Reformation in the context of the Council of Trent, Catholic anti-modernism, and aggiornamento. Relevant topics will be approached in relation to the conceptual shifts in theological understanding of salvation, sanctity, church etc.

- discern main trends in the Modern Age Christianity and analyze their development
- define main characteristics of Protestantism

to understand the basic ideas of world reformation, its creation, roots and transformation,
to analyze social, cultural, political and economical context of reformation
to understand the main ideas of counter-reformation
to interpret the main ideas of Catholic modernism, aggiornamento, the basic theological "schools" of modern Christianity
At the end of the course students should be able to:
define main characteristics of protestantism
record main trends in the frame of modern Christianity
identify main reasons of world reformation
identify main characteristic of post-trident Catholicism
analyze main trends and transformations of modern Christianity
judge relations between main Christian denominations and secular society
evaluate position and possible development in the relation between modern society and main Christian denominations - Syllabus

- (2) Luther and Zwingli – two types of reformation.
- (3) Calvin and transformations of the world reformation – predestination, society.
- (4) Other types of reformation – Anglicanism, Anabaptism, Anti-trinitarism.
- (5) Catholic reformation or counter-reformation – main ideas of so called Trident Catholicism.
- (6) Cuius regio, eius religio – political consequences of reformation in 17th century, religious wars, Baroque culture, galicanism.

to understand the basic ideas of world reformation, its creation, roots and transformation,
to analyze social, cultural, political and economical context of reformation
to understand the main ideas of counter-reformation
to interpret the main ideas of Catholic modernism, aggiornamento, the basic theological "schools" of modern Christianity
At the end of the course students should be able to:
define main characteristics of protestantism
record main trends in the frame of modern Christianity
identify main reasons of world reformation
identify main characteristic of post-trident Catholicism
analyze main trends and transformations of modern Christianity
judge relations between main Christian denominations and secular society

- Kurz je zaměřen na poskytnutí základních informací týkajících se proměn novověkého křesťanství. Hlavní důraz bude věnován zejména podmínkám, vzniku a proměnám světové reformace s přihlédnutím na sociální, kulturní a náboženské milieu. Pozornost bude ale věnována také „katolické reakci“ na světovou reformaci a její proměny v kontextech tzv. tridentského katolicismu, katolického antimodernismu a aggiornamenta. Zkoumané problémy budou nahlíženy rovněž s ohledem na proměny teologických konceptualizací vybraných témat jako např. spása, svátost, církev apod.

- 1. Východiska světové reformace – koncept první reformace, humanismus, socioekonomické proměny evropské společnosti v pozdním středověku 2. Luther a Zwingli – dvě podoby rané reformace. Principy sola, svátosti a jejich interpretace. 3. Kalvín a proměny světové reformace – spása, společenství, proměny kalvínské reformace 4. Další reformační proudy – anglikánství, anabaptizmus, antitrinitářství 5. Katolická reformace nebo protireformace – základní východiska a teze tridentského katolicismu 6. Cuius regio, eius religio – politické důsledky reformace v 17. století – náboženské války, misie, barokní kultura, galikanismus 7. Náboženství „pod povrchem“ – raně novověká mystika a její podoby, pietismus, raně novověký milerianismus, jansenismus 8. Křesťanství ve světle osvícenství – racionalistická kritika křesťanství, deismus, zjevené vs. přirozené náboženství 9. Osvícenství a modernismus ve světle křesťanství I – katolický antimodernismus, ultramontanismus, I. vatikánský koncil, počátky sociální nauky katolické církve 10. Osvícenství a modernismus ve světle křesťanství II – liberální teologie, katolický modernismus, dialektická teologie 11. Křesťanství ve věku extrémů I – západní křesťanství a krize západní společnosti v 1. polovině 20. století, západní křesťanství a totalitarismus, 12. - Referát Témata referátů si studenti vybírají na začátku semestru z předložené nabídky, po dohodě s vyučujícím mohou zvolit i téma mimo tuto nabídku. Referát musí být přednesen v dohodnutém termínu a písemně odevzdán nejpozději na konci semestru. Písemná podoba referátu v přibližném rozsahu 5-10 normovaných stran musí být vybavena seznamem použité literatury. Při závažných nedostatcích může být text vrácen k přepracování.

- Katolická reforma: nové řády a kongregace. Španělská mystika. Jezuitské misie.
- Osvícenství: ortodoxie, pietismus, proticentralistické tendence.
- Liberální teologie. Vývoj evangelických církví.

- Referát Témata referátů si studenti vybírají na začátku semestru z předložené nabídky, po dohodě s vyučujícím mohou zvolit i téma mimo tuto nabídku. Referát musí být přednesen v dohodnutém termínu a písemně odevzdán nejpozději na konci semestru. Písemná podoba referátu v přibližném rozsahu 5-10 normovaných stran musí být vybavena seznamem použité literatury. Při závažných nedostatcích může být text vrácen k přepracování.
- Test z věcné znalosti dějin křesťanství Termíny: Konec března a konec května. Pokud se posluchač k testu nedostaví nebo nezíská dostatečný počet bodů, píše opravný test až v den zkoušky.

- Druhá část kurzu se zaměřuje na dějiny křesťanství v časovém horizontu od 15. století po současnost. Paralelně představuje katolicismus a protestantismus v jejich uzlových vývojových momentech: v novověku, v moderně i současnosti. Dějiny křesťanského myšlení 20. století jsou podány prostřednictvím portrétů hlavních představitelů katolické a protestantské teologie.

- Course objectives
- The course is a follow-up of the RLKA06 Christianity I. It briefly surveys main Christian denominations and tracks their development under various conditions from the Modern Age to present days. The main concern lies at introducing students into the occurrence, transformations, and impacts of the Reformation in different social, cultural, and religious milieus. Considerable attention will be paid also to “Catholic response” to the Reformation in the context of the Council of Trent, Catholic anti-modernism, and aggiornamento. Relevant topics will be approached in relation to the conceptual shifts in theological understanding of salvation, sanctity, church etc.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to::
- identify social-economic and political processes behind the Reformation
- discern main trends in the Modern Age Christianity and analyze their development
- define main characteristics of Protestantism
- characterize “Tridentine Catholicism” and analyze post-Tridentine development
- evaluate dynamic relation between the modern (secularized) society and the main Christian denominations

- 2. Beginnings of the Reformation – “first reformation”, humanism, social-economic and political transformations of European society in the Late Middle Ages
- 3. Luther and Zwingli – two forms of the early Reformation. Solae concepts, sanctities and their interpretations
- 4. Calvin and transformations of the Reformation – predestination, society, and development of Calvinist reformation
- 5. Other trends in the Reformation – Anglicanism, Anabaptism, Antitrinitarianism.

Oral exam prerequisites:
- submission of two analytical abstracts of source texts (50 points maximally)
Analytical abstracts mark gives 25 % of the final evaluation.- midterm test (100 points maximally)
- final test (100 points maximally)
Student to pass must score 120 points (60 %) on both tests together. Student can take any of tests in exam period in a morning before oral examination. Student needs to register him- or herself to examination term through IS MU. In a case of failure on tests student gains “F” and has to register to another examination term. Oral examination (75 % of the final evaluation) concerns on:- knowledge in topics from syllabus
- interpretation skills

- Course objectives
- The course is a follow-up of the RLKA06 Christianity I. It briefly surveys main Christian denominations and tracks their development under various conditions from the Modern Age to present days. The main concern lies at introducing students into the occurrence, transformations, and impacts of the Reformation in different social, cultural, and religious milieus. Considerable attention will be paid also to “Catholic response” to the Reformation in the context of the Council of Trent, Catholic anti-modernism, and aggiornamento. Relevant topics will be approached in relation to the conceptual shifts in theological understanding of salvation, sanctity, church etc.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to::
- identify social-economic and political processes behind the Reformation
- discern main trends in the Modern Age Christianity and analyze their development
- define main characteristics of Protestantism
- characterize “Tridentine Catholicism” and analyze post-Tridentine development
- evaluate dynamic relation between the modern (secularized) society and the main Christian denominations

Oral exam prerequisites:
- submission of two analytical abstracts of source texts (50 points maximally)
Analytical abstracts mark gives 25 % of the final evaluation.- midterm test (100 points maximally)
- final test (100 points maximally)
Student to pass must score 120 points (60 %) on both tests together. Student can take any of tests in exam period in a morning before oral examination. Student needs to register him- or herself to examination term through IS MU. In a case of failure on tests student gains “F” and has to register to another examination term. Oral examination (75 % of the final evaluation) concerns on:- knowledge in topics from syllabus
- interpretation skills
Colloquium- midterm test (100 points maximally)
- final test (100 points maximally)
Student to succeed must score 120 points (60 %) on both tests together. Student can take any of tests in exam period in a morning before oral examination with no need to register in IS MU.
