Cíle předmětu
Based on chronologically arranged cases, the course evaluates different approaches to Jerusalem as a religious center of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The course, taught by two teachers, is focused on sources of different quality and religious background. It stresses the seminar arrangement of teaching which supports stylistic, communicative and analytical skills of the students.
Výstupy z učení
After completing the course, students will be able to:
  • characterize the main features of the religious history of Jerusalem;
  • use different kinds of sources (archaeological, iconographic and written) in their analyses and interpretations;
  • analyze the meaning construction in relation to the concrete religious locus;
  • apply the comparative approach and typological consideration focused on the process of mythmaking and ideologization.

    Výukové metody
    Lectures, individual reading of secondary literature and writing commentaries on secondary literature, individual presentation in class discussions, writing and defending an essay.
    Metody hodnocení
    Requirements for the colloquium:
  • six semestral written commentaries on assigned texts;
  • at least three presentations in class discussion;
  • colloquial essay including its defense.
    The final assessment includes: semestral commentaries and presentations in class discussions (100 points in a ratio 60:40 = 50 %, limit 60 points); colloquial essay (100 points = 50 %, limit 60 points).

    The course is administrated in the ELF (e-learning environment of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University).
