Course objectives
The course brings an overview of the historical development of the Anabaptist movement from its beginnings in the 16th century until contemporary situation. Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada.
Learning outcomes
After succesfull finishing of the course the students will be able: - to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; - to demonstrate basic knowledge about history of Anabaptism; - to critically use sources to the history of Anabaptism in Moravia; - to critically reflect modern scholarly concepts about Anabaptism in the Early Modern era.

  • (0) Introductory lesson. (1) Radical reformation and the beginnings of Anabaptism. (2) Spread of Anabaptism; persecution of Anabaptists. (3) Religious situation in 16th century Moravia. (4) Formation and relationships of Anabaptist groups in Moravia. (5) Everyday life in the colonies (work, education, family life). (6) Religious practice - feasts, liturgy, teology. (7) Authority and power, hierarchy in the Anabaptist groups. (8) Battle at Bílá hora and its impact on religious situation in Moravia. (9) Migration to Transylvania and Russia. (a) written essay (3-4 pages) desribing one selected Anabaptist locality in South Moravia. Essay is a prerequisite for the final assesment, creates 25% of the final evaluation.
(b) final test at the end of the semester, consisting of 20 questions, 60% of correct answers is required. (75% of total evaluation of the course).

Kurz sleduje vývoj novokřtěnectví od jeho počátků v době reformace se zaměřením na období pobytu novokřtěnců na jižní Moravě v 16. století. V navazující části jsou sledovány osudy novokřtěnců přes exil v Transylvánii a Rusku až po jejich zakotvení v USA a Kanadě.

Kurz sleduje vývoj novokřtěnectví od jeho počátků v době reformace se zaměřením na období pobytu novokřtěnců na jižní Moravě v 16. století. V navazující části jsou sledovány osudy novokřtěnců přes exil v Transylvánii a Rusku až po jejich zakotvení v USA a Kanadě.

Course objectives
The course brings an overview of the historical development of the Anabaptist movement from its beginnings in the 16th century until contemporary situation. Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada.
Learning outcomes
After succesfull finishing of the course the students will be able: - to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; - to demonstrate basic knowledge about history of Anabaptism; - to critically use sources to the history of Anabaptism in Moravia; - to critically reflect modern scholarly concepts about Anabaptism in the Early Modern era.

Course objectives
The course brings an overview of the historical development of the Anabaptist movement from its beginnings in the 16th century until contemporary situation. Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada.
Learning outcomes
After succesfull finishing of the course the students will be able: - to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; - to demonstrate basic knowledge about history of Anabaptism; - to critically use sources to the history of Anabaptism in Moravia; - to critically reflect modern scholarly concepts about Anabaptism in the Early Modern era.

Course objectives
The course brings an overview of the historical development of the Anabaptist movement from its beginnings in the 16th century until contemporary situation. Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada.
Learning outcomes
After succesfull finishing of the course the students will be able: - to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; - to demonstrate basic knowledge about history of Anabaptism; - to critically use sources to the history of Anabaptism in Moravia; - to critically reflect modern scholarly concepts about Anabaptism in the Early Modern era.

(b) final test at the end of the semester, consisting of 20 questions, 60% of correct answers is required. (75% of total evaluation of the course).

Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada. After succesfull finishing of the course the students will be able: - to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; - to demonstrate basic knowledge about Anabaptist theology with regard to Catholic and Protestant doctrines; - to critically use sources to the history of Anabaptism in Moravia; - to critically reflect modern scholarly concepts about Anabaptism in the Early Modern era.

Course objectives
The course brings an overview of the historical development of the Anabaptist movement from its beginnings in the 16th century until contemporary situation. Attention is paid mainly to the situation in the 16th century Moravia with a respect to the problems of social group dynamics and leadership. Following lectures are dedicated to further development of the Hutterites during the period of their migration to Transylvania, Russia and finally to USA and Canada. Main objectives of the course are: to understand the background of radical reformation; to understand the beginning of Anabaptis movement in Europe with regard to its social, economical and political aspects; to analyse group dynamics and the transformation of the leadership in the early phase of the movement; to understand further development of the Anabaptist movement in Russia and the USA.

Kurz sleduje vývoj novokřtěnectví od jeho počátků v době reformace se zaměřením na období pobytu novokřtěnců na jižní Moravě v 16. století. V navazující části jsou sledovány osudy novokřtěnců přes exil v Transylvánii a Rusku až po jejich zakotvení v USA a Kanadě.

  • Radikální reformace, šíření novokřtěnectví v Evropě, perzekuce novokřtěnců; Náboženské poměry na Moravě v 16. stol., hospodářsko-společenská situace; Formování novokřtěneckých obcí na jižní Moravě; Každodenní život v haushabenech strava, práce, škola, výchova; Náboženský život - obřady životního cyklu, svátky, teologie; Problém autority a moci - hierarchie v obci, sekta/církev; Jednotlivé skupiny a topografie; Bílá hora a její dopad na náboženské poměry na Moravě; Život novokřtěnců na Slovensku, v Transylvánii a Rusku; Mennonité a huterité v současnosti
