Course objectives
The seminars consist of video projections (opera, film, document, concert) preceded by a brief introductory lecture. The aim of the seminar is to broaden the cultural scope of students and ability to critically review and examine the work. The length of the seminar is irregular, depending on the actual duratas. About eight critical mini-essays have to be submitted.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, student will be able to:
- identify and summarize main genres of performance art presentable via audio-visual screening, including opera, ballet, drama, film, documentary, operetta, musical, and several of their sub-genres;
- understand, compare and explain different aesthetic attitudes in the creative process of performance art;
- write an essay summarizing important aspects of the piece and its realization and express a critical opinion based on both facts and one's own reflection, observations and findings.

Lectures, projections, readings, class discussion, excursion
Assessment methods
A brief introductory lecture (20-35 minutes) is followed by the screening itself. An optional discussion follows. Six miniessays must be submitted at the end of every semester. The most important thing is the ability to make and formulate one's own critical opinion. Plain factual texts won't be accepted.
