Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic approaches to writing a scientific paper and to familiarize them with the form of academic writing and working with a professional text. Students will be encouraged to think critically on their own, and will be introduced to the basic principles of proper source citation, hypothesis and research question setting, and the architecture of a professional paper or argument. At the end of the course, they will be able to independently produce a proseminar paper of 25,000 characters (including spaces, without a list of sources).
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
a) define the topic and the research questions of their theoretical work;
b) able to process the annotation and hypothesis of their future academic text;
c) practically apply quotation rules from various sources of literature (book, video, almanac, etc.) according to the rules of the ÚHV;
d) practice critical arguments in academic discussions;
e) at the end of this two-semester course, the student is able to independently process their theoretical work.

Teaching methods
Introduction to basic principles of academic writing: bibliographic standards, work with resources and literature, structure of work, principles of argumentation and critical thinking.
Assessment methods
In order to obtain the credits, students are asked to:
a) submit an annotation (abstract) + one chapter of the proseminar thesis - at least 3 pages, i.e. 5,400 characters, by 30 April 2024 (including). Document in Word/PDF format. The document will also contain a draft of the part of the literature used for the thesis (the correctness of the bibliographic notation according to the ÚHV citation standard is important. (it does not count as part of the 5.400 ch. length). Deadline for submission: 30. 4. 2024;
b) until June 30th finalize and submit a 25,000 characters long theoretical work (including blank spaces and literature used in the thesis). Word/PDF
