Course objectives
Dealing with the TV programme strategies and trends in public service programming, this course will focus on following areas: 1) Introduction to basic concepts of TV programming, principles of TV programme composition and planning. 2) Creation of the broadcasting scheme, its individual blocks and broadcasting windows. 3) Categorization of programmes, introduction to basic television genres and formats and their utilization in the programme. 4) Development of the content of TV broadcasting and the changes in programming brought about by the shift from analogue to digital broadcasting. 5) Characteristics and content of full-format and specialized TV channels. The lecture will be accompanied by projection of excerpts from TV programmes. Assessment: written task practical exercise related to programme creation: e.g. proposal of a broadcasting scheme for a TV channel, proposal of a TV format, etc. Required reading: McQuail, Denis (1999): Úvod do teorie masové komunikace.
