The expected level of language proficiency should approach (for successful completion of the subject) the lower B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

- Course objectives
- The goal is to improve oral and written literacy. Half of the weekly hours are taught by Czech employees and by German or Austrian lecturers. Czech teachers focus on the textbook and on grammatical problems, the mother-tongue lecturers on the ability to speak and to write. The students should learn to speak freely and to acquire typical German collocations. The texts also implicitly convey cultural content.
- Learning outcomes
- The students learn 6 lessons from the textbook Sicher! B21.2. Lecturers (native speakers) pick up on the conversational topics of these lessons and also focus on selected cultural topics, writing critical reflections and on a stylistic adequate description of phenomena.
- Special attention will be paid to some difficult problems of the grammar and to the skill to reproduce a texts the students have listened to and answer some questions concerning the text.
- Lesson 7: Relationships Family constellations. Zoë Jenny: The pollen room. Bicultural relations. Type of text Letter to the editor. Indirect speech. Generalizing relative clauses. .
- Lesson 8: Nutrition. From vegans to flexitarians. Cooking classes. Report on regional dishes. Advertising slogans for food. Subjective uses of the modal verb. Nominalizations of verbs. Conditonal and concessive clauses.
- Lesson 9: At the University Study wishes of high school graduates. Information brochure: The Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Discussion: Select a university. What students need money for. Word formation: negation by prefixing and suffixing adjectives.
- Lesson 10: Service. Vocabulary "services". Bargain hunting. Recover the coprrupted text from the fragments you will receive. The was been read only once. Alternate to the passive. Subjectless passive sentences.
- Lesson 11: Health. Medical series on TV. Dream Job or hrad Job? As a doctor abroad. Alternative healing methods. Modal connections
- Lesson 12: Language and regions The blue miracle. Regional variant of the detox. Foreign words. Extended past participle.

- Teaching methods
- Weekly class meetings with lots of exercises. Therefore is regularely attendance very important (= compulsory attendance). Homework. Vocabulary and grammar tests during the semester. The course is completed by a written and oral examination. The commission consists of the German and Czech teacher.
- Assessment methods
- The course is finished by a three-part exam. Two written paper (Erörterung, grammatical test, test of the 6 lessons from the textbook). If the student successfully writes both parts, he / she can take an oral exam of both teachers. The oral exam is oral verifying the knowledge of the topics discussed.
