Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to describe the ethnic development in the Czech Republic in the context of the Central European setting. Based on the information received, they will be able to analyze ethnic issues that continue to play an important role in contemporary Europe.
Syllabus
  • basic technical terms related to issues discussed, Germans as the most important ethnic minority in the Czech Lands, Anabaptists and Jews, denomination-based minorities, Slavic minorities, Croatians, Poles, Gypsies – Roma, population census as the basic statistical source and transformation of the definition of nationality, development of the structure of nationalities in the population after World War 2, situation in the Czech Republic (from 1 Jan.1993)
