Course objectives
The main aim of the seminar is to provide students with the possibility to acquire skills necessary for analyzing texts of all kinds from the viewpoint of stylistics, with the focus on scholarly texts.
Syllabus
  • The course is divided into several mutually linked modules, focused on the above-mentioned skills. Each module consists of theoretical and practical sections, theoretical topics dealt with include: 1) Style and stylistics, stylistic factors, stylistic values, stylistic dissimilation, 2) Possible techniques of stylistic analysis, 3) Dichotomies of form and function, 4) Composition and style, 5) Varieties of Czech; usage, norm, codification, 6) Colloquial style, 7) Technical style, 8) Style of administration, 9) Journalistic style plus style of advertising, 10) Oratory style, 12) Style of fiction. The final module is focused on summarization and revisions.
