Course objectives
The course is devoted to the problem of gifted and extremely gifted children with a focus on psychological consequences. The aim is to provide students with an overview of the state of the art (terminology, theory, researches of giftedness and gifted), discovering and adjusting student's own implicit theories of giftedness and gifted (including getting rid of myths about gifted and talents), providing stimulus material (case studies, self-experience, observation) to recognize and understand the psychosocial and educational needs of gifted people, to extend diagnostic competencies (screening and diagnostics of giftedness), gain orientation in current legislation. The course extends the knowledge of other disciplines, especially educational psychology and psychodiagnostics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to: define basic concepts and diffrences between them
  • realize implicit theories of giftedness and detect risks
  • explain different theoretical attitudes towards giftedness and talent
  • realize screening in preschool children
  • create diagnostic assesment for gifted children
  • define and discus specific psycho-social needs of gifted children understand actual law and potential interventions.
