Course objectives
Christian missions represent one of the oldest social, political and religious frames, which formed the relationships between Europe and other countries in the period from the Middle Ages until modern times. The colonial expansion of European countries along with the intensive missions in the Early modern era have changes the religious map of the world and its traces are visible in many countries until today. Also, the contemporary Christian missions reflect its colonial past. Understanding the processes and entanglements of the Christian expansion around the world enables us also to understand the religious, social and political situation in many countries, from South America to Indian and Japan.
