- Cíle předmětu
- Cities, and – by extension – places, spaces and built environment are part and parcel of (almost) each and every work of literature. But what role, what function do they play within a literary work? How do cities relate to the characters populating those works of fiction, and what is their relationship to the writers themselves (and vice versa)? Can we make sense of the city, or, of our memory of a certain place, without studying the slow processes of transformation that are continually unfolding with regards to the people, their built environment, and their recollections of it? How do people create, re-create, recall and recollect their memories through their engagement with the city? And, do cities also have memories? This course uses an interdisciplinary approach to study the relationship between the memory and the city as well as the role of literature in capturing the moments and the slow trajectories of gradual transformation of both, our built environment and our memories.
