Course objectives
This proposal is based on Programme (Syllabus) of the Subject “MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY” having 14 lectures (Parts). It is proposed to focus students on the deepening of knowledge and practical use of this findings concerning only selected part above mentioned syllabus. It is the prerequisite for the subject “PLASTICS FOR CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION” to pass the subject “MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY”. Passing the subject “DEGRADATION AND STABILISATION OF PLASTICS” is for the enrolling the subject “PLASTICS FOR CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION” recommended, but is not the prerequisite. There is no modern, practically oriented scientific literature written in Czech or Slovak language available here, which is focused on the use plastics (thermoplastics and/or thermosets) in the conservation and restoration.
The following books are possible to be taken as the Basis, but all were issued before 1990 Year:
• Zelinger J., Heidingsfeld V., Kotlík P., Šimůnková E.: Chemie v práci restaurátora a konzervátora, ACADEMIA, Praha 1987,
• Schätz M.: Moderní materiály ve výtvarné praxi,
• Schätz M.: Polymery ve výtvarné praxi.
It is a drawback of the above mentioned books that many of the trade names presented there does not exist any more. Many of those products are not available at Czech producers or distributors any more. Another literature is continuously supplemented and/or is got by the interlibrary loan.
