Course objectives
By the end this lecture, the student will be able to describe qualitatively:
- fundamental physical principles behind the most important nanotechnology branches
- principles of main methods for fabricating nanotechnology structures
- main methods of material characterization
- current most renowned nanotechnology applications.
  • Nano-optics - the surface plasmon, quantum dots, nanophotonics
  • Nanomagnetism - physical properties of magnetic nanostructures
  • Nanomechanics - structure and mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes, nano-microelectromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS)
  • Nanostructured thin film coating - classification, super-hard coatings, processing techniques and principles
  • Nanocatalysic materials - fundamentals, materials and characterization
  • Carbon fibers and nanotubes, nanocomposites and their applications
  • Medical Nanotechnology - Nanoparticles and Nanoencapsulation, nano-biosensors, nano-manipulation of biomolecules
