Course objectives
Course reassume basic geochemistry course in bachelor level. The main attention is paid to the quantitative methods of stability estimantion in geological systems (minerals, rocks, fluids) in Earth crust and paths of their transformation.
Learning outcomes
The main attention is paid to the quantitative methods of stability estimation in geological systems (minerals, rocks, fluids) in Earth crust and paths of their transformation. Students will be able to solve problems of genesis (p, T conditions, and composition) and temporal evolution of geologic systems from igneous rocks to the current changes of Earth's atmosphere.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction, history, basic terms, 2. First and Second Law of Thermodynamics, 3. Gibbs function, 4. Chemical potential of solutions, 5. Processes: One component systems, 6. Multicomponet systems, 8. Solid solutions, 9. Chemically reactive systems: Equilibria, 10. Acid-base and precipitation equilibria, 11. Complex equilibria, 12. Equilibrium electrochemistry, 13. Dynamics: Rate og geochemical processes, 14. Modeling: principles of equilibria and dynamics modeling, 15. Ideal and real systems
