Course objectives
Principal aim of the subject is the study of regional geographical differentiation of the studied continent. Successively are analysed all components of natural as well as socio-economical environment. Some specific problems of the continent are illustrated on the examples from the selected countries or macro-regions. Integral part of the accompanying seminars is an individual work of students on chosen regional geographical issues.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to analyse the differentiating factors of the natural environment of the continent
to learn the social and economical conditions of the continent
to identify relevant environmental and socio-economical problems of the continent

  • General characteristic of continents. Ground features of geological structure. Relief and drainage of North America. Relief and drainage of South America. Clima of North America. Clima of South America. Soils, vegetation and animals of american continents. Teaching methods
The basic teaching method is lecturing. Part of the course are seminar works of students on various topics in the field of natural, social, political, cultural and economic aspects of the continent.
Assessment methods
Participation on the seminars is compulsory. The necessary condition for obtaining the credit is the presentation and defense of the report dealing with the chosen regional geographic topic. Examination has two parts - written (physical geography) and oral (human geography).
