Course objectives
The course is oriented to gaining basic knowledge in structural bioinformatics. The first question solved is the difference between the information included explicitly and implicitly in genome. Then 3-D reprezentation of molecules in computers is discussed. Notions of basic structural motives in proteins and nucleic acids follow. Then, possibilities of 3-D structure prediction are introduced together with implications of 3-D structure in biological functions and in designing biologically active molecules.
Syllabus
  • 1.What is structural bioinformatics ? 2.How to obtain 3-D structure ? 3.Basic structural motives in proteins, protein structure. 4.Basic structural motives in nucleic acids. Nucleic acids structure. 5.Energy as a key to predisct 3-D structure. 6.Molecular mechanics. 7.Conformational analysis. 8.How to organize 3-D data in databases. 9.Homology modeling and „threading“ 10.Molecular complexes, docking. 11.Structural bioinformatics and biologically active compounds design. 12.Drug design based on receptor and pharmacophore.
