Course objectives
The aim of the course is introducing students to the most common gemstones, synthetics and imitations, so they gain orientation in the topic. The course provides hands-on practical training of basic identification of gems using gemological instruments and tools.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, student will:
• be able to understand differences among the natural gems synthetics, and imitations
• be able to discriminate similar gems using different tools and instruments
• be able to understand methods of practical ID of gems
• meet the most common imitations and synthetics available on the Czech market and will understand the risks of gem market.
• connect knowledge from earlier course on gems with new practical information
