Course objectives
The course presents optimisation methods applicable in economic practice, especially in management and decision making. The emphasis is on methods of linear programming, mainly on the simplex method, duality and sensitivity analysis. After that, methods of non-linear programming, integer programming and network optimisation are explored. Finally, an introduction to the solution of complex decision problems is presented including dynamic, stochastic and multi-criteria problems and problems of game theory. Students will be made familiar with the applications of the above methods in economics and the scope of knowledge of the relevant mathematical theories will be adjusted to meet this priority.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to acquire an overview of the existing models, methods and their applications; to understand theoretical principles of the basic methods; to be able to construct mathematical models of practical problems and solve these models using computers.
