Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Orientation in methods leading to fluorine derivatives of organic molecules and their reactivity
Syllabus
  • Organofluorine compounds and strategy of their synthesis : The lecture deals with the interests and applications of organofluorine compounds in our life. After a general introduction concerning the main properties of C-F bond and trifluoromethyl group (steric, energetic and electronic characteristics), the influence of introduction of a fluorine atom or CF3 group will be discussed, especially for the reactivity of fluorinated carbonyl derivatives. Then, the main aspect will be devoted to the two general strategies (trifluoromethylation or building blocks) for the synthesis of fluorinated aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Finally, few interesting biologically active compounds containing fluorine atom or CF3 group will be presented (anti-osteoporosis and anti-cancer properties).
Teaching methods
Lecture with practical demonstrations
Language of instruction
English
