Course objectives
The lecture presents the cultural and historical development of the Czech lands, seeking to capture the stimuli that were important for the formation of modern Czech culture. The lecture will define the main stages of development, present their historical characteristics, but also it will study their ideological image and development in various spheres of social life and art, also in contact with the European culture. The lecture focuses primarily on the literary development, reminding important movements, personalities and texts; but the attention will be also paid to stimuli from the field of visual arts, architecture, music, book arts etc., that participated in the formation of the Czech cultural heritage. The aim of this cycle is to present a clear picture of the wider Czech cultural and historical background as a source of the modern present; the lecture should thus serve as the universal basis for the following, specialized disciplines of the research programme.
After finishing the course the student will be able to:
- understand the historical development of the Czech lands;
- understand the main development trends in European context;
- understand the dynamics of their cultural development;
- include the acquired information into the cultural and social context;
- to understand the acquired knowledge in the related disciplines.
