The Cultural Sociology study program is designed as a full-time graduate Masters study program. It is offered to students who have already obtained an undergraduate degree in the fields of humanities, social sciences, political science or other related fields. The standard duration of the Cultural Sociology Masters program is four semesters. To earn the diploma, students must obtain 120 ECTS credits for coursework, successfully complete a thesis (about 20,000 words in length) and pass a final examination.

Students take minimally 120 ECTS credits worth of coursework to be able to register for the state exam. For the distribution of these ECTS credits the following rules apply:
(1) Students take 58 ECTS credits worth of coursework in compulsory courses.
(2) Students take 32 ECTS credits worth of coursework related to the diploma thesis.
(3) Students take maximally 30 ECTS credits worth of coursework from the block of selective courses. Students take minimally 10 ECTS credits worth of coursework in these study profile related selective courses. It is recommended to take more credits in these courses than minimally required. Students can take all 30 ECTS credits worth of coursework in selective courses from the block of profile related courses. However, students can take maximally 20 ECTS credits worth of coursework in the block of non-profile related selective courses.

The study program is also open to students whose aim is not to study for a graduate degree, but rather to gain credits. Such students may enrol in courses of their choice; the tuition fee will be proportional to the number of credits taken.
