Study plan

At the state final examination, the student demonstrates their knowledge of a broader range of topics related to their doctoral thesis. The student also demonstrates their knowledge of the terminology, history, approaches and theories of musical science.
An oral exam in form of a public defense of the thesis based on the submission of the thesis. Points of the public defense: 1. introduction of the student and their overall study and professional profile by the supervisor, including the student's specific research outputs (i.e. the actual conferential, publicational or project activities) 2. introduction of two reviewer’s thesis reports 3. student’s reaction to the reviewer’s thesis reports 4. public discussion about the overall study and professional profile of the student, their thesis and related issues.

- The preparation of the dissertation thesis is carried out throughout the entire study period and constitutes at least 60% of work duties.
- The student submits their dissertation thesis in the extent and form that is common for the given type of work. Other requirements, such as the extent and form of the thesis will be designated by the Dean or, within the scope of their authority, by the Doctoral Board.
- The student publicly presents the results of their work at international professional conferences (seminars) and in a scholarly journal (or in conference proceedings). The paper is presented in a foreign language. The student proves their language and professional knowledge.
- The student participates in classes for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This also includes the realization of workshops and summer schools, optionally also teaching at elementary school, high school, art school. The decision of the course guarantor (supervisor, consultant) is decisive for the completion of the course. To avoid overloading students, a teaching maximum of 60 hours of pedagogical work per course of study must be followed.
-During the duration of the course the student has to attend an internship abroad in length of at least 30 days at least once.

The subject is focused on the topics of older and newer Czech and European music cultures with special attention to some topics: musical activities of religious brotherhoods in Moravia in early modern period, music at the royal courts, Leoš Janáček, Alois Hába, research of the audience taste, relationship of the music theory and aesthetics of the 19th and 20th century.
