Study-related information

  • Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesis
    At the latest by half of the standard study period, i.e., by the end of the 4th semester, the student:
    - completes all subjects of theoretical training
    - demonstrates the language requirements
    - fulfills the obligations related to the teaching competence
    - fulfills other duties
    - presents thesis statement
    At the latest by the end of the standard study period, i.e., by the end of the 8th semester, the student:
    - presents the results of his/her work (presented in English) at a seminar or international conference
    - demonstrates international cooperation - study/research internship/fellowship
    - submits an application for the doctoral exam; the exam is to be performed in the course the following semester
    - prepares the doctoral thesis and submits a request for the defense of the dissertation
  • Requirements of the study
    1. Preparation of doctoral thesis - the student continuously prepares the state-of-the-art of the topic of the dissertation thesis, conceives and specifies the research focus and the scientific plan, including the definition of the goals of the dissertation, he/she acquires practical experience with the methodology of the field, laboratory or expert procedures or theoretical concepts and models, acquires experience with independent planning, realization of own research
    2. Publication activities and scientific writing - while preparing scientific publications the student gains experience in the synthesis of knowledge, critical evaluation of methodological approach and novelty of presented results, interpretation of results, argumentation. At the same time, he/she attends academic writing courses that facilitate the experience gained in the theoretical framework.
    3. Submission of dissertation theses - the student submits and presents a written synthesis of the state-of-the-art, research focus and scientific plan, definition of the goals of doctoral thesis.
    4. Presentation of results - the student participates (posters, lectures) in international and national (or student) conferences and lectures for the scientific public.
    5. Theoretical training - the student completes specialized courses and courses aimed at expanding the knowledge of the field of Anthropology (1st and 2nd year of study) and deepening of specialized fields of study in connection with the topic of dissertation with respect to the requirements of the doctoral exam.
    6. Seminars - the student participates in seminars and conferences of the doctoral program
    7. Linguistic Competence - the student demonstrates language competences in academic and professional English by attending relevant courses (English for Biologists, Academic English, etc.), fulfilling the obligation of the corresponding subject and presenting a presentation in the English language at a seminar or international conference.
    8. Internship abroad, international cooperation - the student completes a internship/fellowship abroad for a minimum of 1 calendar month. The subject matter of the inter/fellowship must be related to the dissertation.
    9. Development of teaching experience - the student assists in teaching courses for the bachelor and master levels of education and participates in supervising high school students preparing their high school theses at the workplace and students of the bachelor and master study programs.
    10. Development of transferable skills - the student acquires the rules of project preparation and project management, leadership, communication skills, gains insight into general methodology of science and critical thinking, work with literature and databases, overview of history and philosophy of science, acquires the skills to present and to promote science by participating in events for the general public (e.g., Open Days, The Night of Scientists, Children's University, Biological Olympiad, etc.).

    1. Validation of three-dimensional modeling in skeletal anthopology
    2. Forensic analysis of bone fracture caused by blunt force trauma
    3. Subsistence Strategies of Upper Paleolithic Hunter-Gatherers
    4. Man of the Hillfort Period
    5. Functional analysis applied to lithic industry of the final Middle Palaeolithic and the beginning of the Upper Palaeolithic with the aim to reconstruct behaviour of ancient human groups
