Parts of the final state examination and its content
The state exam of the follow-up master's degree programme Pre-primary education (Pre-school Teacher Training? Kindergarten Teacher…?) is based on proving the graduate's profile in fron of the tree-member comission (a comission chairman, a pedagogue and a psychologist) and is composed of the three parts: 1) Portfolio presentation 2) Pedagogy and psychology exam 3) Thesis defense
1) In the first part, student presents his/her professional skills, teacher’s beliefs (or subjective theories) including the description of his/her way of professional development and the goals of next development. Student has to prove his/her claims on his/her professional portfolio. Student has 10 minutes for his own presentation and then begins 10 minutes long discussion.
2) The second part of the state exam interconnects and synthetizes the knowledge of pedagogical and psychological disciplines and categorizes them into a theoretical interpretative framework (or frameworks) during solving concrete situations. Student draws one of the topics, respectively one of nine situations and has 20 minutes for preparation. The exam in front of comission lasts for 15 minutes. Every student has to have the topics elaborated idiosyncratically, so he/she has to speak about solving the situations with using the portfolio based on his/her own experiences. Student has to prove the experiences on some pedagogical or psychological theory and the laws regarding to the topic; he/she can speak about some forreign experiences too. The state exam is based on three key themes of preprimary education related to the objectives and content of the study programme. The key themes are: a child, a teacher, and a nursery school. Both parts of the state exams are evaluated according to the criteria.
3) The thesis defense is an isolated part of the state exams regarding to the prescribed standards. A three-member comission, a thesis‘ supervisor, and a reader have to be present.
Suggestion of theses topics and the topics of defended theses
The topics of the thesis will be closely related to the overall focus of the study program. In particular, it will focus on issues related to inclusion in pre-school education and to support the professional development of pre-school teachers. Partial topics can be, for example, work in small teams, communication with family, intervention programs for children with difficulties and special educational needs.
