Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesis
The aim of the doctoral examination is to verify that the student has appropriate knowledge in the field of his Ph.D. study and that he/she has satisfactory theoretical training for further research. Students will prepare theoretical analysis of five problem-oriented topics from the field of Greek Studies that are not identical with the topic of their dissertation. The exam takes place the earliest after the 4th semester and the latest after the 8th semester.
The defence of the dissertation is possible after it's submission and fulfilling of all formal requirements, see the subject of the Doctoral dissertation course, and after the granting of credits for this course by the supervisor.
Requirements of the study
Compulsory subjects are generally individual in nature and their main tasks are the preparation of the doctoral dissertation (theoretical and methodological preparation, working on specific chapters within doctoral seminars, preparation of theses and finalization of the dissertation text). The minimal standard reflected in the compulsory subjects is two presentations at conferences (at least one in a foreign language), publication of one study and at least several weeks (preferably one or two-semester) study or internship abroad. In the frame of the facultative courses, students can demonstrate their scientific maturity by other publications, take a longer foreign internship, participate in teaching at the Institute of Classical Studies, or deepen their professional competences by completing subjects of faculty offer for doctoral students of linguistics and literature. Within optional subjects, students have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills by selecting further courses from the curriculum or by choosing from a full-university offer.
