Study plan

State doctoral exam has to prove competence of student for critical thought and for dealing the given issue. Students have to be capable to bring arguments and answer in discussion. He or she should prove knowledge the literature from the expert field of the discipline of art history and they should be able to use it in discussion.

The candidate will prepare for exam three treatises on theoretical, methodological or historical concepts in the field. Issues are defined by student in co-operation with the tutor. Student prepares treatise in form of thesis, which then serve as starting point for discussion. state doctoral exam should be passed in 6th or 7th semester of study.

Defence of dissertation work proceedes as standardn scientific discussion. Issues are formulated by oponents. Students should be able to demonstrate originality of their research, ability to deal with critical comments and take part in the discourse. Student is allowed to defend the dissertation work only when he or she had fullfilled all study requirements.

Individual research and writing dissertation form essential part of work load (60 percent). Minimal level of requirements is defined in compulsory subjects, other modules then provide more individual specialisation.

General subjects include Methodological seminar and Academic skills. Minimal requirements then include publication of paper in peer-reviewed journal in Czech and world language, conference presentation, teaching assistence and independent teaching (adequate to one semester teaching).

In modules for specialisation there are more opportunities to engage with representatives from praxis, for more teaching (including tutoring diploma works), conference or publication presentation, etc.

Compulsory standard of curriculum is internship abroad (at least 1 month long) and practical intership (30 days minimal length).

Students in full-time study take part in research and organisational tasks at the department.
