  • Admission conditions

    Termín podání přihlášek: 1. únor – 30. duben 2019.
    Termín dodání podkladů pro přijímací řízení: do 17. května 2019.

    Podklady pro přijímací řízení:

    • podepsaný životopis;
    • soupis publikační činnosti;
    • projekt disertační práce.
    • Podklady pro přijímací řízení je třeba dodat v tištěné formě (nikoli e-mailem) na Studijní oddělení FF MU - přijímací řízení a to poštou (Arna Nováka 1, Brno) nebo osobně.

      Přijímací zkouška má formu ústní rozpravy nad projektem disertační práce.

      Hranice úspěšnosti: 70 bodů (max. počet bodů 100).

      Upozornění: Doklad o absolvování magisterského studia (úředně ověřenou kopii diplomu, u vzdělání získaného v zahraničí také tzv. nostrifikaci) předloží přijatí uchazeči u zápisu do studia. U přijímacích zkoušek se doklad o absolvování magisterského studia nevyžaduje.

Studies

  • Objectives

    The main objectives of the doctoral degree study programme in ancient history are: to educate scholars in the field; to create a team dealing with the methodology of the field and cooperating in solving topical issues of ancient history; to encourage doctoral student publications; to provide regular meetings with foreign experts in the form of lectures, discussions, or consultations; and to create optimum conditions for complementing doctoral studies abroad.

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • publish scientific papers and monographs independently
    • consult Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
    • lecture on selected topics in the university education
    • contribute on a professional level to solving important issues of the field
    • succeed in the international scholarly environment
  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    Graduates can find work at scientific institutes, at universities and high schools, in public and state service, in museums and galleries, and in heritage protection.

  • Rules and Conditions for the Creation of a Study Plan

    The standard duration of the full-time doctoral degree study programme is eight semesters. The credit model and the system of completing courses is the same as in other doctoral degree study programmes at the Faculty of Arts.

    Type A/required courses of the doctoral degree study programme in ancient history are methodological seminars and workshops, doctoral readings of excerpts of upcoming dissertations, selected special lectures, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and participation in domestic and international conferences. Students must earn a total of 240 ECTS credits, of which 26 credits are for type B/selective courses.

    The specializations of current doctoral degree programmes are Roman and Late Ancient history, Greek history, and general cultural and methodological issues of ancient history.

  • Goals of Theses

    Concurrently with the dissertation, the student hands in the abstract of the dissertation, preferably which was publicly and successfully presented in writing in accordance with the valid norms for all doctoral degree study programmes of the faculty.

    The doctoral examination consists of the defence of the dissertation and the student’s answers to questions selected from broader topics with which the student was acquainted before the examination.

  • Access to Further Studies

    Graduates from other study programmes are admitted to the doctoral degree programme in ancient history, particularly from studies of history, Latin language and literature, classical Greek language and literature, classical archaeology, and Mediterranean studies, as well as from other study programmes if the topic of their dissertation is considered enriching for the field, such as in natural sciences or the environment, etc.

    Interdisciplinary as well as interfaculty cooperation is preferred (e.g. with faculties of law).

    Similarly, graduates of the doctoral degree study programme in ancient history can continue in postgraduate studies in various study programmes and at various faculties that can be enriched by their knowledge, e. g. Roman law, religions, politics, etc.
