Admission Procedures

  • Information about the field:

    The international programme, fully taught in English, is accessible to foreign students from any country. The programme has duration of three years and its graduates are awarded with a Bachelor degree in physiotherapy which is recognised in the EU and most other countries. The Physiotherapy Bachelor Programme incorporates both university taught and practice-based components which have been designed together as an integrated whole. It provides students with a complex set of theoretical knowledge and practical abilities which prepare them for professional autonomy and excellence in clinical practice. To achieve this aim, the students are offered a strong scientific foundation together with an impressive repertoire of physiotherapeutic skills. The programme also focuses on the development of reasoning skills. In addition, the programme facilitates the development of essential communication skills and soundly embeds the important values of professionalism. Apart from the core skills and knowledge in the key themes of musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory and neuromuscular clinical science, the curriculum of the programme comprises necessary knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry and biophysics as basis for understanding the content of medical rehabilitation and kinesiology. Furthermore, the students acquire fundamental knowledge of psychology, psychiatry, epidemiology, ethics and Czech language. The specialized profile of the curriculum is formed by investigative methods in medical rehabilitation, rehabilitation treatment in individual clinical branches of medicine (e.g. internal medicine, surgery, traumatology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, gynaecology, neurology, and neurophysiology), physical therapy, exercise therapy and its special techniques, ergotherapy, and prosthetics. A bachelor programme graduates are experts in the field of physical therapy, able to function as independent clinicians, who work together with all the members of a health care system in the coordination and execution of diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive procedures and methods in the rehabilitation process and in care of the ailing. They are endowed with the means to critically evaluate the effectiveness of their own treatments and are qualified to work in hospital departments and other health care facilities including spa resorts.
  • Admission conditions

    The applicants are accepted on the basis of a written entrance examination comprising of two separate tests in the following subjects: Chemistry and Biology. The test contains 40 multiple choice questions with five possible answers out of which only one answer is correct. The test takes 60 minutes. No reference materials are necessary.

  • Objectives

    The aim of this study programme is to educate qualified healthcare specialists who will hold Bachelor’s degrees and be authorised to carry out physiotherapy work of medical preventive care within the framework of medical rehabilitation and other components of comprehensive rehabilitation.

    Students eligible for this programme are those who have completed secondary or secondary specialised education by passing the school-leaving examination, and who have also passed the entrance examination for this programme in accord with the requirements stipulated by the Faculty of Medicine of MU. The programme is not suitable for persons with reduced working capacity.

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • use basic theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of rehabilitation and other medical specializations on which rehabilitation is based;
    • explain the relationships between rehabilitation and knowledge from other medical specializations;
    • apply different approaches of rehabilitation appropriately to the respective diagnosis;
    • design a simple research model in the field of rehabilitation based on findings obtained through scientific methodology;
    • reflect ethical values and positively motivate patients during their rehabilitation;
    • use methodologically relevant findings to argue in favour of the therapeutic rehabilitation procedures that have been selected for a patient with a specific diagnosis.

  • Rules and Conditions for the Creation of a Study Plan

    The required study obligations follow from the study plan of the physiotherapy bachelor programme. Students are obliged to complete the prescribed credit courses, colloquia and examinations in the respective courses, practical training during holidays, and pass the final state examination (FSE) which comprises a theoretical (written and oral) part and a practical part.

  • Practical Training

    Professional practical training takes place in specialized hospital departments and other medical facilities in Brno. Professional practical training is overseen by a specialized supervisor from the respective field, who ensures compliance with hygiene, safety, work, operating and fire regulations. All students are informed about these regulations before the beginning of each practical training.

    Professional practical training includes continuous training during holidays after the second, fourth and sixth semesters, with a length of three, four and five weeks respectively. All training must be completed prior to taking the final state exam.

  • Goals of Theses

    A prerequisite for submitting an application for taking the final state exam (FSE) is fulfilment of all study requirements and successful completion of the last year of the programme.

    The final state examination consists of several parts:

    1) Defence of the Bachelor thesis.

    2) The theoretical part of the FSE is of a complex character and contains specialized issues from the following areas: therapeutic physical education and special techniques, fundamentals of diagnostics and therapy of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system and physical therapy.

    3) The practical part of the FSE consists of performing a kinesiological examination, suggesting a rehabilitation plan, and carrying out a demonstration of medical therapy. After passing the FSE of the Physiotherapy programme the graduate obtains a Bc degree.
