Degree programme objectives

Post-graduate studies of the program International Relations and European politics aim at training of the highly qualified specialists in the field of international relations, international politics, European integration, and European politics. The study programs is offered to the alumni of master programs in International Relations, European studies, or related graduate programs of social sciences and humanities. The study focuses on advanced analysis and research of the theory of international relations, development and changes of international security, strategic studies, international conflicts, foreign and security policy of the Czech Republic and other relevant international actors, theories of European integration, European politics, interest groups and other actors in the multi-level politics of European Union.

Admission Procedures
Admission to Doctoral degree programmes in 2019/2020 (beginning: Autumn 2019)

  • Information on entrance examinations designed for this degree programme
    Dates for submitting an e-application: 1 February 2019 – 30 April 2019
    Dates for inserting supporting documents to the e-application: 1 February 2019 – 31 May 2019
    Date of Entrance examination: 27 June 2019
    Minimum score for being accepted: 60 points (out of 100)

    • Curriculum Vitae / Resume
    • Copy of master's degree certificate or proof of current studies
    • List of publications and papers (if available)
    • Proof of English - minimum B2 level (optional; compulsory only for those who cannot participate personally in the entrance exam)

    Those who cannot participate in the entrance exam in person have to provide additionally 2 Letters of Recommendation. They must be sent by the referees themselves to our e-mail or mail contacts.

  • Objectives

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • provide independent research and scientific work

    • interpret the current state of arts in the field of International Relations and European Studies
    • understand and apply the appropriate research methods
    • publish in the scholar journals and monographs
  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    The graduates from the post-graduate program in International Relations and European Politics will get the qualification to apply for the wide range of positions such as researchers in the areas of basic as well as applied research, university teachers in all types of academic institutions, experts and analysts in European institutions, international organisations, institutions of state and public administration as well as in the private sector and NGOs.

  • Practical Training

    Post-graduate study program does not require any specific practical training.

  • Goals of Theses

    A minimal scope of a doctoral thesis is 350,000 characters including footnotes, cover sheet, content, index, list of literature, and annotations. Students can work with already published texts and data accessible for secondary analysis but the core of the thesis must stem from the original independent research of the student and from elaboration of its results. The nature of the doctoral thesis is similar to the scientific monograph, which applies to both the quality and originality of the content as well as to structure, style, and formatting of the text.
