- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- to perform metric measurements of the eye, determine eye refraction
- to recommend an adequate type of optical correction aid, make and repair them
- to fit contact lenses, educate the client
- to participate in the prevention of serious eye diseases
- to use optical, optometric and ophthalmic devices and instruments
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The University prepares specialized health care workers under Section 10 (1b) and (4) of Act No. 96/2004 Coll., on the conditions for the requirements and acquire of output for the achievement of non-medical health professions and the performance of activities related to the provision of health care (Law of non-medical healt professions, as amended), to the full extent within the scope of preventive, diagnostic, medical and rehabilitation care in the field of optometry.
The graduates of the Bachelor's degree program are employed as health service providers or as healthcare providers as optometrists.
Specifically, the graduate can work independently in optician's establishments, private and state ophthalmology and optometric ambulatories and centers, refractive centers, contact lens fitting centers, clinics, spectacles and lenses producers, spectacle frames, individually manufactured medical devices , ophthalmic, optometric and optical devices, which they also serve.
- Regulated Professions
- Optometrist
- Practical Training
This bachelor's degree program includes practice by more than 1000 hours of relevant legal regulations. Students in practical exercises verify theoretical knowledge gained during lectures and seminars. Practice is carried out in specialized teaching laboratories, at opticians, optometric workplaces, ophthalmology ambulatories and clinics.
This practice will be in the form of a group, then an individual with supervision, and is spread over all semesters, emphasising the second half of the study.
- Goals of Theses
The bachelor thesis is an integral part of the study of Optics and optometry. Its submission in term and funded defense is one of the conditions for successful graduation. The scope of the clear working text without introductory pages with a description of the illustrations and attachments is at least 30 pages. One side consists of 30 lines of 60 characters, the minimum without a formal part of 54,000 characters. The bachelor thesis does not have the character of independent empirical research (the eventual exception must be approved by the KOO leader). The student should demonstrate the ability to critically work with specialized texts, to elaborate the concepts and theories found in them and to find relevant answers to the given question.
- Access to Further Studies
A student of a bachelor's degree program may, after fulfilling the conditions for admission, continue in the follow-up master program of Optometry.
