The aim of the bachelor study program of Orthoptics is to prepare graduates for the orthoptical profession in ambulatories of the hospital departments and clinics, independent ambulatories in medical institutions of state and private type.

The aim of the study program is to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills for performing the profession. The aim of the study program is to educate non-medical healthcare workers in accordance with the law on non-medical health care professions.

Graduation of the study program gives the qualification to full use in the rehabilitation segment of the visual functions of the interprofessional medical team in the field of preventive, diagnostic and rehabilitation care in the field of orthoptics.

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • to perform orthoptic and pleoptic treatment based on the indication of an ophthalmologist, strabologist
    • to work in the field of preventive, diagnostic, medical and rehabilitation care in orthoptics
    • to participate in the prevention of disorders of the development of binocular vision
    • to use orthoptic, pleoptic and diploptic devices
    • to educate a child patient, including his/her accompaniment

  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    The University prepares specialized healthcare workers under Section 11 (1b) and (4) of Act No. 96/2004 Coll., on the Conditions for Obtaining and Recognizing the Competence for the Exercise of Non-Medical Medical Occupations and for the Activities of Health Care Provisions (law of non-medical health care professions, as amended), to the full extent within the scope of preventive, diagnostic, medical and rehabilitation care in the orthoptics program.

    The graduates of the bachelor's orthoptics program are employed either as health service providers as an ortoptist.

    Therefore, the application is in an orthoptic ambulance, an ophthalmologist, where, among other things, it serves optical and ophthalmological devices. In the ophthalmology ambulatory - strabologist, visually impaired children's clinic, the eye-care department of hospitals or clinics and the strabological workplace, the orthoptic workplace, performs orthoptic and pleoptic treatment based on an ophthalmologist's (strabologist) indication.

  • Practical Training

    This bachelor's degree program includes practice in accordance with the relevant legal regulations of at least 12 weeks. Theoretical knowledge gained during lectures and seminars are verified by students in practical exercises . Practice is carried out in specialized teaching laboratories, at orthoptic workplaces, strabology amulatories and eye clinics.

    This practice will be in the form of a group, then an individual with supervison, is spread over all semesters, with an emphasis on the second half of the study.

  • Goals of Theses

    The bachelor thesis is an integral part of the study of Orthoptics. Its submission in term and funded defense is one of the conditions for successful graduation. The scope of the clear working text without introductory pages with a description of the illustrations and attachments is at least 30 pages. One side consists of 30 lines of 60 characters, the minimum without a formal part of 54,000 characters. The bachelor thesis does not have the character of independent empirical research (the eventual exception must be approved by the KOO leader). The student should demonstrate the ability to critically work with specialized texts, to elaborate the concepts and theories found in them and to find relevant answers to the given question.

  • Access to Further Studies

    A student of a bachelor's study program may, after fulfilling the conditions for admission, continue in a follow-up master program, eg. economic or biomedical or similar.
