Degree programme objectives

The study programme of Public Administration assists students to understand various forms of public administration activities and of the organization of public administration, including individual processes and relations within public administration. The programme enhances analytical abilities which are currently required in many fields of human activity: apart from teaching and research, also in counselling, managerial professions, the non-profit sector or state administration and self-government. The studies will lead to recognizing and understanding the relations between individual forms of public administration activities, procedures in issuing administrative acts, guaranty of legality and other connections with public administration. Students will get acquainted with the public administration reform, individual processes in public administration, subjects etc. Further, selective courses develop students’ abilities to apply the knowledge from various fields into the relevant activities related to public administration on which they are focused.

  • Objectives

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • explain the principles, forms and organization of public administration
    • describe the rules and principles of administrative activities and processes
    • process and justify administrative decisions
    • to define basic theoretical and practical knowledge from the field of public administration
    • explain the links and relationships between administrative law and related fields
    • appropriately apply the legislation to various examples from practice
    • propose solutions to individual specific case studies from the area of public administration
    • justify the selected solution of a case study
    • explain systematic and comprehensive information on the legal regulation framework and on the whole range of key legal sectors
    • present professional and expert knowledge and skills in the relevant areas of specialization, complemented by the language knowledge and the ability to work with legal information systems

  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    A graduate of the study program is prepared to work in public administration, in non-profit sectors, or in management positions where they apply their theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skills in the field of public administration and related fields. The bachelor's, practical, study program is designed so that the graduate can obtain qualifications for work in the state sector, self-government as well as in the private sector. A graduate of the Public Administration program is able to work as a high-quality expert and also as an elected public administration official at all levels of state administration and self-government, including managerial positions in other public sector institutions, which corresponds to the professional status of "public administration official".

  • Goals of Theses

    The minimum range of bachelor's thesis is 30 standard pages, including footnotes, a title page, an abstract with a list of keywords, the table of contents and a list of literature. The range may be limited by the upper limit of standard pages or characters, including spaces, if specified in the instructions. The bachelor thesis does not have the character of independent empirical research. Students are to demonstrate the ability to critically work with expert texts, process concepts and theories found in them, and find relevant answers to the given question. The instructions for the state final examinations and the bachelor's/master's thesis are regulated by the Dean's Direcion No. 7/2012 “On the Study in Bachelor's and Master's Study Programmes”. The bachelor thesis consists of a title page, an affirmation, an abstract with a list of keywords, the table of contents, the text itself, the list of used sources and the instructions for the thesis, in the stated order. The thesis is prepared on a computer in a format that is accepted by the archive of the final theses in the IS MU. The thesis is written in standard Czech or Slovak.

  • Access to Further Studies

    The graduate can continue to study at the Faculty of Law at MU in the follow-up Master's degree programme of Public Administration, the field of study Public Administration, or in the MPA study.
