Degree programme objectives

The Master's degree study program Physics allows the prospective student to deepen his/her preexisting Physics and Mathematics education in four specializations: Astrophysics, Condensed matter Physics, Plasma Physics and Nanotechnology and last but not least Theoretical Physics. Students of all specializations will get acquainted with basic numerical methods and modern experimental methods. Great attention is paid to the preparation of the diploma thesis.

  • Objectives

The Master's degree study program Physics allows the prospective student to deepen his/her preexisting Physics and Mathematics education in four specializations: Astrophysics, Condensed matter Physics, Plasma Physics and Nanotechnology and last but not least Theoretical Physics. Students of all specializations will get acquainted with basic numerical methods and modern experimental methods. Great attention is paid to the preparation of the diploma thesis.

  • Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • use analytic and numeric methods
    • understand and create physical models, formulate and verify hypotheses on an advanced level
    • use and calibrate specialized measuring devices
    • critically evaluate, analyze and physically interpret scientific data
    • use programming languages and specialized computer programs
    • write in a structured and critical way, presents results on coferences
    • work scientifically alone and/or as part of a group

  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The graduate of the Master's Degree program Physics will be acquainted with experimental and theoretical physics and be ready to continue his/her education in a PhD. study program. He/she will also be ready ready to seek employment in the private sector in physics related companies and considering the relatively universal character of his/her Physics education he/she can find employment in various institutions of basic or applied research and also professions outside the immediate field of Physics, where he/she will be able to use his/her Physics, Mathematics and Informatics skills and the ability to combine them which is developed during the course of his/her studies.

  • Practical Training

Professional experience (several variants) is an optional part of the curriculum.

  • Goals of Theses

The Diploma Thesis in the Physics program is oriented experimentally and/or theoretically. By its preparation the graduate proves the ability to individually solve a given experimental and/or theoretical problem or the ability to study and understand a theoretical subject of a highly complicated nature.

  • Access to Further Studies

The graduate of the Master's degree program Physics are ready to continue in any of the PhD. study programs in Physics in the Czech Republic and abroad.
