Degree programme objectives
The aim of this four-year doctoral degree study programme is to prepare fully qualified university experts. The study programme offers highly specialized and individualized studies that include scholarly work in the fields of music history, sociology, aesthetics, music theory, and organology. The study programme specializes in both early and modern Czech and European music culture with special attention to some themes, including the music activities of religious brethren in Moravia in early modern times, court music, Leoš Janáček, Alois Hába, the study of audience taste, and the relationship between music theory and aesthetics in the 19th and 20th centuries. Graduates are fully qualified for work requiring expert knowledge and critical thinking. They master the subject discourse and methodological aspects of individual disciplines. They are equipped with thorough knowledge of the subject of their specialization. They carry out independent creative expert and scholarly work. Graduates are employed at universities and in scholarly and cultural institutions.
