Cosmetic products are an important and indispensable part of the modern lifestyle. Growing awareness of health, hygiene and beauty are the main drivers of the use of cosmetic products in the global market. The aim of this degree programme is to meet the need for qualified interdisciplinary experts in the field of cosmetics, with knowledge and skills related to the medical, chemical, technological, ecological, regulatory, and other aspects of these products, to be able to participate in the handling of cosmetics that meet the demanding requirements of the present.

- Objectives
Cosmetic products are an important and indispensable part of the modern lifestyle. Growing awareness of health, hygiene and beauty are the main drivers of the use of cosmetic products in the global market. The aim of this degree programme is to meet the need for qualified interdisciplinary experts in the field of cosmetics, with knowledge and skills related to the medical, chemical, technological, ecological, regulatory, and other aspects of these products, to be able to participate in the handling of cosmetics that meet the demanding requirements of the present.
- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- apply knowledge of the principles of chemistry and materials when characterizing active substances and excipients, and ensuring the quality of cosmetic substances and products
- apply knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology, focusing on areas of the body that most often come into contact with cosmetic products when assessing the appropriateness of use of cosmetics
- apply knowledge of the principles of botany, phytochemistry, and pharmacognosy when assessing natural cosmetic products
- apply knowledge of basic technological procedures in the preparation and production of various types of cosmetic products
- apply knowledge of the fundamental legal regulations, principles of marketing, and management in the handling of cosmetic products
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduate of the programme is prepared for work in the field of manufacturing of cosmetic products as a specialist/technologist in production and in a quality assessment laboratory, in companies engaged in the sale of cosmetic substances and products as a sales representative, client worker and consultant, in the laboratories of certifying and regulatory authorities as a laboratory technician, as a professional providing basic dermo-cosmetic counselling in the provision and application of cosmetic products (e.g. pharmacies, clinics of aesthetic dermatology, beauty salons, wellness centres, etc.).
- Practical Training
The bachelor’s degree programme includes managed professional practical training at specialized workplaces in total length 12 weeks, divided into 4 subjects (Professional Practice I-IV). The practical training starts at the end of the second semester of study and is based on the principle of rotation of students in several types of workplaces handling with cosmetic products (providing production, quality control, documentation, regulation, distribution, sale, counselling). The practical training can be attended in the Czech Republic or abroad.
- Goals of Theses
The bachelor’s degree programme includes compulsory courses related to preparation of bachelor thesis. The bachelor thesis can represent a partial elaborating of results of original experimental research, but students can also process theses based on a literary research and work with data accessible for secondary analyses. They should demonstrate the ability to work critically with specialized texts, process the obtained data, find relevant answers to the given questions, and present their results in an adequate manner. The standard length of a bachelor thesis is usually 72,000 to 90,000 characters, including footnotes, title page, table of contents, bibliography, and annotations.
- Access to Further Studies
Graduate of the bachelor’s degree programme can, after meeting the conditions of the admission procedure, continue to study the follow-up master's degree program Cosmetology and Cosmetic Products at the Faculty of Pharmacy (proposed, in preparation), or in relevant study programs offered by other faculties/universities in the Czech Republic or abroad.
