Abstract
The main goal of the paper is to refer to a blind spot in the meaning of Karel Čapek's robot meaning, one that inheres in its aesthetic interpretation. I show differences in interpretations of the robot from the media archeology point of view (the robot as topos) and the Device Art methodology approach (the robot as mitate). The second one enables me to focus on the media specificity of the first robot and its quality as a theatrical sign. The semiotics of theatre and of the double helps me to show that the robot as metaphor of conformity is still current. In other words, the Robot is not dead!
