Historie integračních projektů i komplikované formování unijního právního systému až k ratifikaci Lisabonské smlouvy ukazuje na schopnost evropského společenství hledat a nalézat konsenzus. Česká republika, Slovensko i severské země se postupně zapojují do procesu rozšiřování, mnohé naděje se naplňují, euroskepticismus zůstává. Budoucnost EU je spojena nejenom s ekonomickým vývojem, ale také s procesem kultivace evropské občanské společnosti, která je předpokladem dalšího prohlubování integrace.

In English

The history of integration processes and the complex formation of united legal system including the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon show that there is a will to seek and find consensus within the EU. Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Baltic states joined the union, many hopes were fulfilled; however, euroscepticism persists. The future of the EU is related not only to economical development but also to the process of improvement of European civic society that is necessary for the ongoing integration.
