Abstract
This chapter analyzes the Czech adaptation of the global television reality show Pop Idol - Czech Search for a Superstar. This television contest attracted a lot of attention in 2005 because of the presence and ultimate victory of Vlasta Horvath, a contestant of Roma origin. The case study focuses at the way ethnicity and national identity was constructed and represented in the show as well as within the broader media discourse reflecting upon this programme.
