Abstract (in English) |
---|
The article focuses on methodological dilemmas of researching with children and illustrates those dilemmas on Czech as well as foreign research studies. New approaches of childhood studies emphasize the understanding of a child as competent, autonomous and equal partner of a researcher. Although sociologists strive to emphasize the children’s perspective, sociological research in its essence, objectifies the child and asserts towards them categories of its own paradigm. Nonetheless it is legitimate and in new childhood studies inevitable to overcome the paternalising approach. For this reason the researchers have to examine conscientiously their own assumptions, theoretical and methodological stemming out of the discipline as well as those stemming out of the adult position. The main argument of the article suggests that in the research of children we can exercise various techniques as questionnaire, individual and group interview or creative techniques as writing, drawing or drama, but without long term observations and presence in the research field the children’s stand point can’t be reached. |
