Abstract

In English

The current diagnostic limitations of prostate cancer have shown that the development of new approaches to early detection of aggressive forms of of the cancer is very important. A comprehensive approach to detection of potential tumour markers using different methods and their optimization is described. We focused on caveolin-1 and metallothionein and the obtained results were compared with prostate specific antigen as a golden standard of prostate cancer markers. All the mentioned markers were detected on both the mRNA and protein levels in three types of prostate cell lines. Metallothionein and caveolin-1 rank among the promising markers in prostate cancer diagnosis, especially. for distinguishing aggressive silent forms of the disease.
