Abstract
In the commentary to the session Information Technology durin the Cold War, the following areas of interest were analysed: 1. Parallel emergence of the computer and the onset of the Cold War; 2. Military vs. civil used of the computer, which were part of the reason for secrecy and the underlying environment for the espionage; 3. Commonplace use of computers and information in political discussions; and 4. (Almost) world-view issues underlying research in computing technology, namely the question what we should (not) automate rather than what we can automate.
