Abstract

Le chapitre 74 de La Vie mode d’emploi de Georges Perec, intitulé « Machinerie de l’ascenseur 2 », se présente comme une rupture herméneutique dans l’ouvrage, par sa dimension onirique mais aussi par ce qu’il semble révéler sur l’immeuble lui-meme. Ce texte échappant donc a la seule logique de la contrainte, nous l’envisageons selon trois axes de lecture, en référence a l’enfer dantesque, aux villes invisibles de Calvino, et a l’holocauste. Enfin, un raisonnement conclusif permet de tempérer la pertinence tant de l’analyse par la logique de la contrainte que selon ces axes et de montrer comment ce chapitre constitue ni plus ni moins qu’une des conditions de l’existence de l’immeuble.

Abstract (in English)

Chapter 74 of Life – a user’s manual by Georges Perec, entitled "Lift machinery 2", constitutes a hermeneutical break in the book, as its looks like a dream: in that way, it reveals more than we may first think about the building itself. This text is set beyond the only plan of writing constraints and we weigh up three main reading keys: Dante's Inferno, Calvino's Invisible cities, and the Holocaust. Finally, a conclusive reasoning mitigates the relevance of analysis by the formal constraints and along these three reading options. We thus try to show that this chapter may be seen as one the conditions of the existence of the building.
