Abstract
This paper explores the history of the first, legendary performance of Waiting for Godot in Belarus and USSR in general, which was banned by censors right after its premiere. It presents different aspects of the production varying from the self-censorship of the used translation, through stage design to particular alternations in the process of realization and presentation. The first-hand report from a director of the production as well as from an actor playing Vladimir’s role are accompanied by numerous primary sources, including event posters, reviews, and video recordings.
